A Manchester woman is trying to reunite this Victorian photograph with the subject's descendants -and has turned to Haworth for inspiration.
Gayle Gibney bought a print of William Frederick Yeames' When Did You Last See Your Father? from a Haworth art shop more than 20 years ago.
Because the frame would not hang properly on the wall, she said she had stored it away.
There it remained until earlier this year, when she then found the photo of the woman as a backing board underneath.
She said: "I removed the frame and the print and found the photo underneath. It was rather a strange feeling to come across it after all this time.
"I have no use for it and do not want anything in exchange, but I would love to see it reunited with someone connected with this woman." Mrs Gibney brought the photograph back to Haworth last month when she visited the village.
She turned to the Bront Parsonage Museum for assistance.
Rachel Terry, curator at the museum, was unable to shed much more light on the case.
She said: "She must have been a very wealthy woman because it is not your normal type of print. But we know very little more about it. From the costume it was taken about 1880, but that is still a guess."
Yeames, born in Russia, was a Victorian artist. When Did You Last See Your Father?, painted in 1878, depicts a boy being interrogated by Parliamentarians during the English Civil War.
For further inquiries the picture can be seen at the Parsonage.
