AT 100 years of age June Miall likes to keep smiling - and she followed her own advice when she celebrated her milestone birthday surrounded by family.
Four generations gathered together for the event at Abbeydale residential home in Ilkley on Saturday.
Mrs Miall, who has two sons, Philip and Roger, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, said her 100th had been perfect.
"I had a lovely birthday with my family," she said. "I am 100 years old but I don't feel it. I am a naturally happy person and I have had an extremely happy life. I have two sons who have both done very well and I had a wonderful husband. "
Mrs Miall was born in Surrey and lived in London for a time before getting married to her husband, Eric, a surveyor, in 1927. When her children were young she ran a guest house on the South Coast but later moved to Ilkley where she has spent the last three years at Abbeydale. The home's owner, Catherine Dey, said: "She is a remarkable lady and cheerfulness itself. She is just a very, very pleasant lady and she always likes to look her best. "
Mrs Miall's son, Roger, said his mother was an amazing lady and still in very good health.
"Her memory is not so good - but apart from that she is in pretty good shape," he said. "She has a walking stick but she doesn't actually need it, and she calls it her precautionary walking stick."
"There were four generations there together for the party - it was a splendid day.
