Otley Athletic Club was represented by Caroline Marler in the British Masters Championships at Derby and she picked up a silver medal.
Caroline finished second in the women's 400 metres in 66.1sec to add to her previous victories in the 200m and 400m two weeks earlier at the Northern Veterans' Championships.
At the Kirkby Malzeard 10k, a beautiful scenic run in North Yorkshire, there was a good turnout with a number of Otley runners competing and doing well.
In addition to his recent run of excellent form, the winner was Otley's Julian Mawson who finished in a time of 34min 8sec, with Neil Cayton second in 34.28. Also running for Otley were Mick Jeffrey, who crossed the line in 39.44; David Fox in 45.09 and Don Buffam in 46.59.
The Chevin Fell Race takes roughly 14 minutes to get to the summit and only four or five to descend again for the quickest runners. This fell race is soon over but is nevertheless hard work and requires good concentration.
This year's winner was Robin Lawrence in 18min 36sec, closely followed by Paul Sheard in 18.43 and Jason Helmsley in 18.46.
For Otley the times recorded were: Duncan Burgess 19.50 (9th), Ray Hawksby 21.37 (22nd), John Armistead 21.50 (24th), Carl Walsh 23.26 (41st), Phil Robinson 25.31 (73rd), Graham Stead 26.19 (80th), Bob Payne 27.44 (90th), Antonio Cardinale 29.50 (103rd) and Ann Atkinson 30.17 (105th).
