The Menfolk of Exley Head used to run evening coach trips, one of which in the 1930s is illustrated here, probably at Grassington.
The photograph has been supplied by Mr Sydney Moorhouse, now of Eccleshill, who remembers some of their personalities and innocent antics.
At the front of the group, Harry Kidd - father of the late well-known Dr Fred Kidd - is kneeling behind his brother in Pierrot costume.
Knelt on the right are Alf Allen with a banjo, and Clifford Stell. Standing on the far right is Billy Normington, who had a popular dance band, next to farmer Jack Crossley.
Others in the group are shirt manufacturers Wilfred and John Barker, poultry farmer Walter Midgley, painter and decorator Frank Peckover - whose young son Stanley stands on the right in the coach door - and Mr Moorhouse's father Albert, a gardener in Devonshire Park who served as a special constable for over 25 years.
"He was only 5ft 2 ins in height," Mr Moorhouse recalls, "and one of his favourite duties was to police the rugby matches at Lawkholme. He got in free, had a touch-line view of the game, and never obstructed the views of other supporters."
The even smaller white-bearded gentleman in the middle is 'old Mr Redman', who during one outing to Otley was installed as Mayor of Exley Head!
Harry Kidd and Alf Allen, who had dressed up as women, 'stood him on a bar stool and adorned him in a Mayor's chain made from bottle tops.'
Mr. Moorhouse also records a homely form of gambling on these occasions:
"Numbers corresponding to seat numbers were chalked round the wheel of the bus, with a further mark on the mudguard.
"Sixpence apiece was collected, and when the bus stopped someone got out to find the winning number," he recalls.
