Watch out for the name of Simmy (Simerun) Akhtar. The 26-year-old is staking her claim to become a success story in the business world.
Helped by a supportive and understanding family, the young Asian woman has bought a former Muslim girls school in Bradford redeveloped it and set up her own DIY store.
It is a pretty cut-throat business, but Miss Akhtar says she has done her research, shopped around the country and has chosen products which are good quality and at the right price. Her aim is to open up a chain of stores which would make her name in the business world.
We wish her and all those who share her positive attitudes all the best. We also look forward to the day when the former pupil of Greenhead School is quoted as a role model. For it is actions like hers which go a long way down the road of encouraging other young people that they can make things happen.
Her aspirations and actions are a further indication of the dormant wealth of dynamic talent - both amongst young men and women - within the Asian community.
Simmy also points out that her five sisters all have independent personalities. It is worth repeating the fact she has the backing of her family, the cornerstone of many a success story.
Her personal message to any young Asian woman is to go for it, however unlikely it may seem. There's no need for any further comment on our part.
