Traders in Bingley are being urged to join a new crime-busting scheme.
Town centre manager David Dinsey and PC Martin Preston, of the Problem Orientated Policing team based at Bingley police station, have launched Business Watch.
Revealed at the neighbourhood forum meeting, the project will involve a ring-round system where shop-keepers will inform each other of shoplifters or suspicious incidents.
"We have a successful Pub Watch scheme which is being copied in Keighley, and Business Watch will also ensure it's an even more pleasant place to come and work and shop," he said.
"The message we're sending out is that people who want to come here to shoplift are not welcome."
There will be regular meetings at which members will be given information and advice from speakers about different ways to spot fraud. A meeting about the initiative will be held in July. For details ring Mr Dinsey on (01274) 758776.
