New planning applications for the former Debenhams store in Manningham Lane, Bradford, propose to keep the building's splendid Victorian facade. The two applications will be discussed by Bradford Metropolitan Council's Development Services Committee. The store closed in April. Tesco want to buy the site from Debenhams for a large superstore. The sale has been agreed, subject to planning permision being granted. The building has been listed as having architectural and historic interest by the Department of the Environment.

Baildon residents' concern about recent fires will be allayed by the assurance the County Fire Officer Mr J. E. Farrell gave a Telegraph & Argus reporter today that 999 calls from Baildon were dealt with immediately. Mr Farrell said he would be glad to attend a meeting of Baildon Council to answer any questions.
