Boy wonder Danny Forrest can handle the huge weight of expectation from City fans.

The England under-18 striker was back training at Apperley Bridge today, five days earlier than his team-mates because he is still a scholar.

Supporters are anticipating a big campaign from the teenager, who burst on to the scene with three goals last term, including City's goal of the season.

The pressure will be on Forrest to repeat those exploits. But one man at Valley Parade, who knows exactly what he can expect, is adamant the youngster will prove to be no one-hit wonder.

Just like Forrest, Ian Ormondroyd progressed from terrace fan to play for his boyhood idols.

Ormondroyd, now City's football in the community officer, said: "At the moment he's in the honeymoon period but he'll find as he gets a bit older that the fans will expect him to do better than the other players simply because he's local.

"But it's all about attitude and I'm sure Danny will be able to handle it. He's a nice lad, quite unassuming and his feet are firmly on the ground.

"He works hard at his game and when he's on the pitch he runs his socks off. When you watch him play, he never gives up and will chase anything."

Forrest is yet to follow fellow starlet Simon Francis and sign his first pro contract although he is still tied to Valley Parade for at least the next three seasons.

Ormondroyd added: "I can only see him getting better."
