Two violent rapists may have left evidence at the scene of an horrific sex attack which could see them jailed.

Detectives today said they had recovered "debris" from the isolated lovers' lane where an 18-year-old girl was assaulted by both men.

Officers would not say exactly what had been found as releasing such details might hinder their inquiries, but confirmed the potential clues had been passed to forensic experts for DNA analysis.

The 18-year-old victim had enjoyed a night out in Bradford city centre with friends when she was picked up by the two men, thought to be driving a J-registered white Vauxhall Cavalier, in the Sunbridge Road area.

After getting into the vehicle at about 12.30am on Sunday, June 8, the teenager was driven five miles to Roper Lane in Queensbury. Both men raped her while the car was parked in a lay-by about 300 yards from the Raggalds pub.

Detective Constable Dave Smith, who is heading the inquiry, said the terrified woman was kicked and punched during the attack, then dumped by the roadside some time between 1am and 2am as the rapists escaped.

Eventually she managed to flag down a passing car which took her to the city centre Tyrls police station.

Det Con Smith said: "There was some debris found at the scene which is being forensically examined."

The evidence is currently being treated as a central lead in the investigation. It is hoped the attackers have left behind some kind of material allowing experts to draw up genetic profiles.

Det Con Smith also said there had been an "encouraging response" from readers after the Telegraph & Argus published e-fit images of the suspected rapists a week ago.

But he added: "We would still urge anyone who might have missed these first time, or who has any information about this incident at all, to contact us immediately."

He praised the victim's bravery in working with specialist officers to give as much information as possible.

Anyone with information should contact Bradford North CID on (01274) 376259.
