The Guide movement sports day on Saturday was hailed a fantastic success.

About 160 Guides, Brownies and Rainbows from across the area took part in the event, which was held at Greenhead School.

District Commissioner Vera Redman said: "The event was brilliant, the weather was very kind to us. The sports day is a chance for us to encourage sporting activity and there were races like the egg and spoon for a bit of fun, although some of them do take it very seriously.

"The County Commissioner of West Yorkshire North, Gillian Everall, was there and I think everyone enjoyed the day.

"There were refreshments as well and the whole event was a fantastic success." The overall winner of the Rainbows section was the 1st Keighley, Exley Head troop. It also won the Rainbows relay event.

The overall winner of the Brownies was the 1st Haworth group. The winner of the Brownies' relay race was the 2nd Silsden.

The Guides overall winners and winners of the relay event was the 2nd Oakworth.

A donation of £175 from the Guide movement to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also made on the day.

The money was raised from a collection on the annual Thinking Day earlier this year.
