Organisers say a combination of fantastic weather and hard work made this year's Historic Vehicle Rally a huge success.

They estimate about 2,000 people attended the event on Sunday.

Graham Mitchell, spokesman for the trustees of Keighley Bus Museum, who organised the event, said: "It was hugely successful thanks to brilliant weather and the fact that we put on a very good show.

"About 250 separate vehicles were exhibited. There were buses, military vehicles, commercial vehicles, agricultural vehicles, pumping engines and horses at work.

"As well as all that there were trade stands and children's events. There was something for everyone."

The rally was opened by Keighley College principal David Gates and was attended by Keighley Mayor Cllr Nancy Holdsworth and deputy mayor Cllr Amjad Zaman.

Mr Mitchell added: "It was a great event -- and the 'drive a double decker bus' attraction was as popular as ever, with other highlights including the staged recovery of crashed cars.

"It was a busy rally and there was a lot of work behind the scenes to make it such a success.

"Trustees John and Ruth Groves have been doing all the administration and paper work for the past six months.

"And the work has definitely paid off, with the rally becoming an important and established fixture in Keighley's events calendar."

He added that the special bus service to the show ground at Marley from the train station was very well used and a good example of how working together could be mutually beneficial.
