Fly tippers are putting the health of children at risk, a Bradford mother claims.

And Mrs Cheryl Wall says Jonathan Straight, the owner of the private land which the dumpers use, has done little to respond her pleas for help.

Mrs Wall said she and her neighbours in Pawson Street, Laisterdyke, have endured the blight of fly tippers for nearly two years.

Trucks and vans use a car park on land owned by a recycling company opposite their homes as a dumping ground.

Mrs Wall, 36, said: "They come at least once a week at all times of day and night.

"There used to be some wire fencing round the car park but it was pulled down.

"We have been on at Mr Straight for the last 18 months to two years, asking him to put some proper fencing up.

"They arrive in vans and tipper wagons, sometimes in the middle of the night, pull up and dump the stuff. Sometimes they come with two loads at a time.

"They are dumping absolutely everything - fridge freezers, bricks, trees and household stuff.

"It's an absolute eyesore and it smells."

Mrs Wall, who has a son, Ryan, eight, and a seven-year-old daughter Alyson, added: "We are worried about the health of our children.

"There is nothing for them to do round here so they play in the rubbish.

"We don't know what they are getting covered in.

"You can't watch them 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"My little boy caught impetigo last summer. We explained this to Mr Straight but nothing has happened.

"We have had to live with this every day for two years and we are fed up with it. We dare not approach the tippers. We just want something done."

Mr Straight, who is managing director of Straight Recycling, told the Telegraph & Argus that he shared residents' concerns and he had now arranged for the site to be fenced off.

"We understand fully the concerns of the residents and we are now trying to be a responsible neighbour," he said.

"I wrote to all the residents two weeks ago to inform them of this," he said.

"Illegal fly-tipping is a big headache for us and we are doing all we can to put a stop to it.

"I have ordered a fence for the site and I am waiting for it to be put up at a cost of £3,000 to our company".

Mrs Wall has now contacted Bradford Council's environmental health department and its officers have visited the site.

A Bradford Council environmental protection spokesman said: "We have received a complaint from Mrs Wall.

"The matter is now being investigated and we will take appropriate action if necessary".

Resident Kieron Walker, eight, is pictured by the rubbish.
