The Rylstone and District Women's Institute had great success doing it naked. But while Ministry of Defence chiefs have ruled that sailors, soldiers and air crew will have to keep their clothes on, they still hope to make a huge impact with a charity calendar.
The organisation Support our Soldiers is to publish a Gulf Heroes Calendar 2004 featuring men and women who served in the Gulf.
The venture, which is hoped to raise about £25,000 for official forces' charities, is the brainchild of Bingley mum Karen Webster, whose son Nicky Coward was among the first wave of troops to cross the Iraqi border in March.
Mrs Webster, 41, started a website to urge people to rally behind British forces during the conflict.
She also ran the highly successful Send a Smile campaign, which sent more than 3,400 Beanie Babies to children in Iraq.
"We have a high profile and it seemed a bit of a let-down to say that as some of our boys are back home we will drop what we've been doing," Mrs Webster said.
"We wanted to do something that would help people in the forces and their children."
Charities set to benefit from the fundraising drive include the benevolent funds for all three forces and Hollybush House in Scotland.
The home, which is run by the charity Combat Stress UK, helps Gulf War veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
"These are my particular favourites because they deal with all aspects of problems, including people that have been disabled, and generally look after them," Mrs Webster said.
Plans to produce the calendar had to be cleared through the Ministry of Defence. It backed the venture but ruled that the models should keep their kit on.
"We've termed it Hunks Of The Month, but we have been limited to what we can do. We are still hoping to put some sexy angle on it. They are going to have to keep their tops on but it will still be interesting," Mrs Webster said.
The calendar is a family affair, with son Nicky, 21, appearing on the page for May.
He returned from the Gulf at the end of May and has now returned to his base in Germany.
"He seems OK, he doesn't seem to be affected by being there," said Mrs Webster.
The calendar will cost £5, plus £2 postage and packing, and will be on sale from September via the internet - www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk - or by post from SOS, PO Box 70, Shipley, BD18 1YE.
Any businesses which want to sponsor the calendar can contact Karen on 07771 533034.
