Oakworth and Cowling battle out the Wynn Cup final at Bradley on Sunday.

The formbook suggests it is a one horse race with the Worth Valley side odds-on favourites.

They are second in the league although they did slip up last week at home to Haworth WE. However, they have a strong side from start to finish. Skipper John Crossley opens the innings with Adam Fradley and the pair have enjoyed some good starts this season.

In Michael Scarborough they have a formidable Craven League player with both bat and ball, although his bowling as been affected recently by a leg injury. Mark Price, on his day can take any attack apart, and in Jamie Pennington and Chris Mooney, two of the young guns, they have two keen competitors.

On the bowling front Scarborough is supplemented by the vastly experienced and accurate Graham Rankin, backed up by newcomer from Ingrow, Dale Hoyle, Andy Dawson, and if he makes it into the team, Jason Lockley.

Despite their strength of the past decade or so they have only won the trophy on two occasions.

Meanwhile the South Craven team are having a mixed season in the league, currently lying in seventh place. They enjoyed a stunning win over Bradley in the semi-final.

Their batting line up contains some players of experience in Steve Mitchell and Keith Woodhead, who both played in the Bradford League. Mike Dudley usually opens with the latter and they too can get the team off to a good start.

In Gareth Frankland they have a tenacious but perky wicket keeper/batsman. One of the most improved players this season captains the side, Martyn Dalby is the all rounder with his bowling being influential as the main attack weapon.

Steve Richardson is a good foil to his skipper opening the attack.

It is in the backup bowlers where the Cure Hill side have the edge. For Cowling Chris Hoyle is an injury doubt, and they also use Simon Spencer and Nick Staveley.

The interesting member of the squad is Martin Rishton, who should he make the team is the link with past glories. He took 5-30 the last time Cowling won the cup in 1989 when they beat Haworth at Gargrave.

n After the hot weather of Saturday, rain arrived mid-morning on Sunday forcing the Cowling Cup final to be called off. The Umpires decided the bowlers run-ups were unsafe. After conferring it was agreed that the game would take place next Sunday, August 17, at 1-30pm.
