Keighley cricketer Waj Ali was star of the Bradford League's Priestley Shield final last Sunday, when he took 5-39 against Hanging Heaton and scored 61 with the bat -- but ended up on the losing side.
The 19-year-old business student, who now plays for Bradford & Bingley, began his cricketing career with Keighley and also played with Yorkshire at Under-17 level. I started at Keighley CC as a 12-year-old and played there for five years before ening invited to the Bradford & Bingley club. Hanging Heaton won by just eight runs after Bradford & Bingley were dismissed for 237 as the match ended in gathering gloom at almost 9pm.
Waj was named Man of the Match in the cup final. "It was a superb match, but very disappointing to end up on the losing side," he said.
