There are seven matches left for Division One sides in this season's Specialist Ducting Supplies Bradford League. But bottom-of-the-table Gomersal will know a lot more about their survival prospects after the next three weekends.

Tomorrow they are at third-from-bottom Idle, a week tomorrow they entertain Cleckheaton (currently fifth from bottom) and the weekend after they are at Farsley, who are only two places above a relegation berth at the moment.

The main problem for Gomersal is that they are still ten points adrift of the third-from-bottom club, and chairman Dave Hilton said: "Realistically we need to win two games more than anyone else near the bottom."

But the good news is, even though Idle and Yeadon notched winning draws last Saturday, Farsley have also been sucked into the battle to stay up.

Hilton added: "Despite us defeating Mirfield last weekend (only Gomersal's second league win of the campaign), we weren't expecting Idle to get a winning draw against Pudsey Congs.

"However, at least Yeadon's winning draw against Farsley has brought them into the relegation picture."

The cigar-smoking Hilton was hoping to play mainly second-team cricket this season, but Gomersal's needs and his form have meant him turning out more often than not for the first team.

And the 45-year-old was quite happy to have to sit down rather than stand at the bar last Saturday after taking five for 42 in Gomersal's 70-run victory.

In his defence, however, he had bowled uphill at Mirfield for 19.4 overs.

Other main contributors to the win were Ben Graham (70) and Gareth Lee (64 and four for 36), but Hilton said: "If we win, we win as a team.

"Gareth Lee has been in form with the bat as well as the ball recently, but our most consistent bowler this season has been 16-year-old left-arm pace bowler James Russell," said Hilton.

"Unfortunately, because of his age, we are restricted in how many overs he can bowl."

Tomorrow Gomersal are at full strength, with Lee's fellow left-arm spinner Matthew Barnes available.

Yeadon are at Congs, whose lead has been cut to 13 points by Spen Victoria, and Farsley are at home to Mirfield.

Much interest in Division Two centres on the race to 1,000 runs.

Brighouse's Richard Robinson leads the way with 957 after his season's-best 174 last weekend, but Esholt's overseas star Viveck Mahajan is close on his heels with 947. Robinson's side are at home to Windhill tomorrow, while Mahajan has the much more difficult prospect of lining-up against second-placed Bankfoot's attack.

Leaders Saltaire have a home derby against Salts, and third-placed Bradford & Bingley are at Morley. Keighley (fourth) are at home to Bowling Old Lane.

Matches start half-an-hour earlier tomorrow at 1pm.
