The boundaries between Bradford and Shipley should be kept well separated, at least for the time being according to the Secretary of State for the Environment. His view was expressed following a public enquiry in Bradford earlier this year into the Metropolitan Council's refusal to grant planning permission for an 18-acre site between Windhill and Thackley. Barratt Developments ( Bradford) Ltd., part of the giant Barratt Group, wanted to build 200 new homes on the site and told a Government inspector that they were desperate for land in the area.

The Grand National Trophy for the fastest rider of the day at the Bentley Springs motor-cycle scramble has gone to Eric Atkinson (350cc BSA) of the West Leeds Club. He was presented with the trophy by Mr. Dennis Parkinson, secretary of the meeting which was organised by Wakefield and District Motor Club.
