Farsley Celtic 1 Rossendale United 0; The Celts opened the season with a home win in a tight game against Rossendale United to hand Lee Sinnott a victorious start to his new role of manager.
The former Bantam was delighted with the result because his side had been tested and were able to answer all the questions asked of them despite having three of their top men sidelined through suspension.
"I am very pleased, it was hard-fought, we created some good chances and it is always nice to win 1-0," said Sinnott after being in charge of his first meaningful game.
The winner was carved out just before the interval and hit the Lancashire outfit hard at a crucial time. A free-kick was pumped forward and Ben Austin stole in behind the visitors' defence to reach it and side-foot home.
Farsley's Danny Spence hit the post early in the second half in a good display but the one goal was enough.
Sinnott faces his first away game tonight and has issued a warning to his players to keep their feet on the ground.
"We defended well as a unit and attacked as a whole team so all the players have to take credit. But one swallow doesn't make a summer," added Sinnott.
Leading scorer Michael Midwood returns to the squad tonight.
