THIS season's J P Mewies Craven & District League Wynn Cup final will be staged at Bradley on Sunday, when Oakworth and Cowling will be in opposition.
The form book points to a win for the Worth Valley side, but having suffered a major upset a couple of years ago on home soil at Cure Hill, they will not be counting any chickens, especially since their league title hopes suffered a body blow last weekend when they were beaten at home by Haworth WE.
Even so, they undoubtedly have a strong side in all departments. Skipper John Crossley opens the innings with Adam Fradley, a combination that could lay the foundation for victory, while Michael Scarborough can turn any game with bat or ball.
Mark Price can also take any attack apart on his day.
On the bowling front Scarborough is supplemented by the vastly experienced Graham Rankin and backed up Dale Hoyle, Andy Dawson and, if chosen, Jason Lockley.
Cowling are having a mixed season in the league and are currently lying in seventh place, but they enjoyed a stunning win over Bradley in the semi-final.
Their batting line-up contains experienced players in Steve Mitchell and Keith Woodhead, who have both played in the Bradford League. Mike Dudley usually opens with the latter and they too can get the team off to a good start. In Gareth Frankland they have a tenacious wicket-keeper/batsman.
Martyn Dalby is the all rounder with his bowling being influential as the main attack weapon, while Steve Richardson is a good foil to his skipper opening the attack, but it is in the backup bowling department where the Cure Hill side seem to have the edge.
After the blistering hot weather of Saturday, it was a huge disappointment that rain arrived mid morning on Sunday to force a postponement of the Cowling Cup final between Embsay and Glusburn at Ingrow.
The game would take place on Sunday starting at 1-30pm.
