Fulfilling a promise he had made to his local club if they ever reached the Bradford Sunday Alliance top flight, former Albion Sports midfielder Jason Ryan made his debut with Premier Division newcomers Holme Wood at Bolton Woods on the opening day of the season.
It wasn't the best of starts as a terrible defensive mistake let in Jimmy Spencer after only five minutes and the Bolton Woods forward added a second when he collected the pass of the game from Des Rouse.
A third goal before the interval looked ominous but Holme Wood survived and with Ryan pulling the strings Holme Wood turned it round in the second half.
A foul on Ryan saw Andy Moulden score from the spot. Left back Mark Meehan hammered in a second and with the clock ticking down the unmarked Matt Merzaros coolly held off until the right moment to put away the winner and see Holme Wood home 3-2.
Pudsey Royal's new manager Dennis Metcalfe had a successful Alliance debut as the division's other newcomers were 3-1 winners over Crown.
Phil Turner (2) and Danny Budge scored in the first half, Crown replying with a penalty with ten minutes to go.
Fairweather Green got off to a flyer with a John Penn goal in only 30 seconds against Calverley Victoria.
Penn went on to complete a hat-trick in a 7-1 win for last season's league runners-up and the other pleasing aspect was an exciting debut from 16-year-old Mark Flannagan.
Strikers Gary Shaw and Taj Singh shared their side's three goals as title favourites and reigning champions Albion Sports enjoyed a 3-1 win against Oakenshaw, who paraded several impressive new players.
Paul Andrew and Steve Crawford had excellent debuts with Queensbury in their 3-0 home win over East Ward.
Former Wibsey WMC player Andrew along with Martin Pattison and Steve Blackett obliged with the goals.
