A Gomersal pigeon fanciers' hobby almost cost him his life, and doctors have warned that others could be suffering from Bird Fanciers' Lung. Frank Maltas, a 42-year-old dairyman, described how he sold his pigeons six years ago to try to solve his mystery illness. A survey carried out by scientists at Oxford chest clinic has diagnosed a condition known as allergic alveolitis, in patients who were allergic to dust particles carried by the birds and their droppings.

About 50 workers from Italy and Austria are to be employed in Bradford area textile mills, under a scheme whereby employers make their own arrangements to find the workers, subject to Ministry permission regarding their employment in Britain. An official of the Ministry of Labour in Leeds said yesterday it was not know when the workers would arrive.
