A bid by a popular pub to play music until midnight has sparked objections from residents who say they are fed up of noise and nuisance.
The Park, in Keighley Road, near Lister Park, Bradford, has applied to Bradford Council's Licensing Panel for an extension to its entertainments licence to allow music from 11am to midnight from Thursday to Saturday. The pub will ask the panel on August 27 to renew the hours of 11am to 11pm from Monday to Wednesday and noon to 10.30 on Sundays without any change.
But two ward councillors representing the residents will tell the panel there are strong objections to extending the hours.
Shipley West councillor David Ford said parking at the pub was "totally inadequate" and customers were ignoring an access only sign to Mariners Drive, causing numerous problems. "I am not a killjoy but this is a residential area," he added.
The panel will also be told by Councillor Martin Love that residents are suffering from noise and litter and that sometimes people urinate in their gardens.
"We are not asking for the licence to be removed completely but for the hours to remain the same. The residents are entitled to some peace," he said.
The Sycamores at Norman Lane, Eccleshill, also faces problems over its application for an entertainments licence for karaoke and discos between noon and 11pm from Monday to Saturday and noon to 10.30pm on Sundays.
A petition has been submitted to the panel from 22 residents protesting about entertainment noise and bad behaviour of customers.
The panel will be told there were objections in previous years but there was no application for a renewal of the entertainments licence last year.
Licensee Lisa Kelly said today the doors and windows of the pub were kept closed during the popular karaoke and music nights.
"If we have upset anybody we apologise, but people should have a chance to make a success of a business."
