JASON RAMSHAW will play his last league game at Cougar Park on Sunday, before hanging up his boots at the end of the season -- if he has recovered from injuries received last week.

He suffered calf and knee injuries in the game at Barrow, but has been receiving treatment throughout the week and is expected to be in the line-up.

It will be an emotional game for the Cougar Park legend, and could also be among the toughest of his 11-year career with the club, as they aim to defeat Sheffield Eagles, who have beaten Keighley twice this year.

He came close to retiring from the game last year after suffering a terrible shoulder injury which kept him on the sidelines for much of the season, but the tremendous support for his benefit year persuaded him to give it one more season.

Peter Roe brought him to Keighley from Halifax in the 1992-93 season and he was part of the team which won the Division Three title -- the club's first trophy for 90 years.

He has been an ever-present member of the team ever since, helping the club to the Division Two title in 1994-95 and the Premiership honours at Old Trafford in the same year. They were back at Old Trafford in 1996, but this time were beaten finalists.

Rammy stuck by the club throughout years of financial turmoil and has played an even bigger part off the field introducing thousands of children to rugby league through the club's community programme.

Club chairman Neil Spencer said: "It is not just the club, but the whole town that owes Jason a debt of gratitude. He is a tremendous servant to the Cougars and to Keighley I hope that even if he decides to retire from playing he will continue in his other roles within the club.

"Hopefully this won't be his last game at Cougar Park. if we get a home tie in the play-offs, but his last home league game is an important milestone in a remarkable career."

Cougars face Sheffield after clinching a last-minute 18-16 victory in a thriller at Barrow last weekend and are determined to keep up their race for top spot and a guaranteed home tie in the play-offs.

They are aiming to be in the Division Two Grand Final at Widnes on October 5, and gain promotion to Division One for next season.

Coach Gary Moorby said: "Sheffield are among several teams looking for promotion, they were knocked off top spot by Chorley last weekend and will be looking to get back on song.

"We have lost out on two trips to the Don Valley Stadium earlier this season so I suppose we go into this one as underdogs, but if we show the character we displayed at Barrow we will certainly cause them a few problems."

Sheffield are expected to bring quite a following of fans and if Cougar support turns out in force there could be the biggest crowd of the season at Cougar Park.

n The Cougar Academy team are also in action in their last league game of the season tomorrow (Saturday) when they take on Featherstone Rovers at Cougar Park, kick-off 2.30pm.
