Britain has no immediate intention of "clocking off" Greenwich Mean Time, despite a new decree outlawing it in France. The French will no longer legally base their time on the Anglo-Saxon devised GMT, which has in effect set the world standard for time since 1884. Instead, they will rely on UTC, a system based on the relentlessly accurate ticking of an atomic clock which allows time to be measured in millionths of a second.

"Bradford is unique in its lively interest in foreign affairs and readiness to give help in a practical form" a gathering of more than 200 Ukrainians was told. Representing the 1,000 strong Ukrainian colony in the city, the audience met in the Mechanics' Institute to hear speakers from London advocating the formation in the city of a branch of the Anglo-Ukrainian Society.
