More than 20 people were arrested for crimes ranging from the cultivation of cannabis to conspiracy to burgle in a week-long crackdown on crime in the Keighley division.

Chief Inspector Roger Gasson said the Target initiative had been successful.

"We have been engaged in once-a-month, week-long pro-active policing for several months and statistically it shows that we are having an impact on crime," he said

"These initiatives disrupt offenders and there is a fall in criminal activity." People were arrested for a range of offences, including burglary, possessing cannabis, assault, theft and burglary.

High visibility patrols had been active each day in areas identified by intelligence officers. Crime reduction leaflets had also been distributed, warning people about leaving doors unlocked, purse dipping and car key burglaries.

The division's automatic number plate recognition system had also been deployed to clamp down on vehicle crime, he added.
