A 39-year-old man threatened to kill his former partner after their relationship broke down, a Court heard.
Michael Nagy jumped from a shop doorway and grabbed Alison Hirst by the throat as she was walking to work along Rawson Place, Bradford, one morning in November 2001.
He then pointed a finger in her face and said: "I'm going to kill you,'' the city's Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor David McGonigal said that when Nagy was arrested he admitted he may have told her in the heat of the moment that he was going to kill her but denied he would have carried out the threat.
Nagy should have been sentenced in August last year, but he failed to appear. He was traced in July after spending 11 months on the run.
Nagy, of Azalea Court, Barkerend Road, Bradford, pleaded guilty to harassment and failing to surrender.
He was made the subject of a community punishment order for 90 hours and put on an 18-month community rehabilitation order with a condition to attend the domestic violence programme.
Mitigating, Ken Green said his client was suffering from emotional distress and anxiety when the relationship was breaking down.
