A 52-year-old man has been jailed for 15 months for attacking another man with a walking stick.
Bradford Crown Court was told how Abdul Wahid also headbutted Rafaquat Shah "for no good reason."
Wahid, formerly of Dawnay Road, Canterbury, Bradford but now living in Leeds, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.
Lesley Dickinson, prosecuting, said Mr Shah had acted as go-between for his cousin who was buying a car from Wahid.
Mr Shah, with his three-year-old daughter as a passenger, drove to meet Wahid in June 2001 to hand over £100 to him.
Wahid approached the car and as Mr Shah started to get out he struck him over the head with a walking stick.
He continued striking Mr Shah until the stick broke and he then headbutted him before going to fetch another stick.
The attack was stopped when a neighbour intervened. Mr Shah had suffered a swollen nose, bruising to an eye and bumps on his head.
Tahir Khan, mitigating, said the offence was "impulsive behaviour rather than premeditated."
