Brighouse are believed to have become the first side in the history of the Bradford League to have points deducted for failing to fulfil fixtures.

Both their first and second teams have each been penalised 24 points because their second team have twice not turned out a side this season.

The matches concerned were on Saturday, June 28 at Hartshead Moor and on Saturday, August 2 at home to Morley.

Ironically, Brighouse's first team and second team only drop one place despite their massive points penalties.

The first team swap places with fourth-from-bottom Drighlington and the second team with bottom club Windhill.

The second string had recorded a nine-wicket victory over Windhill this weekend, but their problems continued in the match at Park Avenue.

Enough players were present to start the match at 1pm, but the players couldn't gain access to the ground until then which meant a delay to the start of 20 minutes.

The gap between the clubs is still 18 in Windhill's favour. Bradford League chairman Graham Reid said last night: "Normally the opposition are just awarded the six points for a no-show, but twice this season Brighouse's second team have failed to fulfil a fixture.

"We view this as a matter of great concern. They turned a first team out on both occasions but we understand there were 16 players available from the club and that they could have fulfilled both second-team fixtures.

"We feel there has been some maladministration on Brighouse's part."
