GREEN-FINGERED enthusiasts flocked to the 2003 Addingham Allotments and Gardens Association Annual Show last weekend.
Held in the Memorial Hall, the event proved to be very popular with the number of entries up from last year's 215 to 320, and 54 exhibitors taking part.
The show opened to the public at 1.30pm and more than 200 people, encouraged by the dry weather, visited to see the produce and displays before its close at 4pm.
Association secretary Alan Haigh said: "As well as exhibitors from the village there were some from Yeadon, Burley and Keighley and all the entries gave a superb display."
The judges on the day were: Flowers - Mr Alan Wilson from Otley; Vegetables - Mr Chris Wilson from Gomersal; Homecraft - Mrs S Gurney from Ilkley; Floral Art - Mrs M Clarke from Addingham; Children's Classes - Mrs G Wilson-Darrell, from Addingham.
After the judging the guests and show helpers were invited to a buffet organised by Judith Jones, which was arranged as a token of thanks for their efforts.
The floral art judge, Mrs Clarke, took the opportunity to appeal for more entries from flower arrangers in the village and further afield for next year's event.
The show concluded with the prizes being presented by district Councillor David Harrison, who has supported the association for many years.
Coun Harrison also presented the prizes for Addingham Garden Friends' Hanging Basket competition (which was judged by BBC Leeds radio presenter Joe Maiden in July). The winners were: 1st prize - M Powell and I Hill, 2nd prize - J Bull, and 3rd prize B Crooks.
Parish council awards for the Best Main Street Frontage and Best Garden, meanwhile, were presented by parish councillor Danny Palmer.
The day ended with the drawing of raffle tickets and the sale of show produce, all proceeds going to the Association's funds.
