Yeadon have just five games remaining in which to preserve their Bradford League Division One status but things do not look too hopeful for them at the moment.

Saturday's clash at Idle could go a long way to deciding their fate as Idle are third from bottom as opposed to Yeadon's second from bottom.

Idle, captained by former Yeadon spin bowler Mark Nicklin, currently hold an 11 point advantage over Yeadon and look to be the form team with four points gained on Saturday from a drawn game with Pudsey St Lawrence.

Yeadon have also yet to play East Bierley who have now been drawn into the relegation dog fight.

On Saturday at Dam Lane Yeadon had no answer to a strong Spen Victoria side still hoping to loosen Pudsey Congs' grip on the championship trophy.

Spen are currently in second place 13 points behind the leaders but they will not be giving up without a fight.

On Saturday they dismissed Yeadon for a none too convincing 139 with Rao Anjum grabbing 3-23 off 13 overs while Gareth Davies and Kez Ahmed each picked up three wickets.

Yeadon soon lost openers Harvey Anderson and James Todd making it 17-2 but Jon Carey with 23 and Gulsharez Ahmed with 30 stemmed the tide for a while.

Skipper Grant Soames chipped in with 28 but things were not going Yeadon's way and they were dismissed in the 50th over - at least showing some battling qualities.

Spen however had their eye on the six points and Gharib Razak and Davies put on 51 for the first wicket.

Soames, showing his usual determination in the face of adversity, then picked up three wickets at a cost of 21 runs to halt Spen in their tracks.

However, lacking penetrative bowling support he could only watch as Thomas Owens hit an unbeaten 37 and Chris Elstub an unbeaten 30 to secure a six wickets victory for Spen.
