Otley 42, Mowden Park 0
IN the first of two warm-up games Otley nilled National League Three side Darlington Mowden Park and ran in six tries which were all converted by Simon Binns.
There were five new faces in the side. Props Justin Wring and Kris Fullman, who along with Duncan Sayers at hooker, posed something of a problem for the visitors. In the backs the Fijian winger, ex-Wakefield Wildcats Waisale Sovatabua, made himself at home, ever looking for work and in the process scoring a couple of tries.
Nick Aspinall, late of London Saracens, shared time at scrum-half with new skipper Dave Scully and Chris Kendra demonstrating how blessed Otley are immediately behind the scrum and local lad Phil Howell, making his first team debut, slotted easily into the spot vacated by Phil Greaves.
Darlington, on their first visit to Cross Green, were not fazed and fought well in the forwards, five times keeping their line intact when Otley chose to go for the corner instead of the posts.
They held their hosts to just the two Sovatabua tries before the break, the first when he ap-peared outside Will Darby on his opposite wing on 12 minutes and 12 minutes later when he popped up in midfield to go over near the posts.
Otley stood the pace better and eight minutes after the break Will Darby snapped up a loose ball and outpaced the defence with a length of the field gallop.
The lead was stretched two minutes later when Sovatabua cut inside to put Robert Whatmuff on the charge and No 7 Matthew Wright finished off a forward drive before top referee Steve Lander, fresh from tri-nation rugby, gave just sufficient added time for youngster Leon Clark, on as a replacement, to seize upon a dropped Darlington pass on half-way and there was no-one to catch him.
Otley 33, Bradford and B 15
OTLEY eased their way to victory after losing Simon Binns, victim of a head high tackle, after ten minutes. This was quickly followed by the loss of winger Will Darby with a hamstring problem. When full-back Phil Howell retired 15 minutes into the second-half Otley's back three were all forwards.
After two minutes centre Neil Law forced his way over and following the Binns incident prop Kris Fulman was driven over. Howell converted.
Bees hit back through former Otley centre Phil Greaves with a try. Soon after the break he put Chris Halau'fia in wide out.
A try by Law, converted by Howell, eased Otley ahead only for Halau'fia to get a good bounce to race over. Dave Scully converted two further tries from prop Justin Wring and No 8 Scott Connor.
