There is certainly nothing wrong with being average, and the residents of Aireborough can count themselves lucky that they are not claiming the title of worst ward in Britain.

In fact, average is a good thing, because in this case, it does not mean dull, boring and mediocre, it means diverse and distinct.

The ages, ethnicities, religions and car and home ownership are the most middling of all wards in Britain, but that is a comfortable place to be. Rather there than in a place where no-one has cars, nor owns their own homes, and there isn't a mix of cultures.

Or at the other end of the scale where every family has two cars, two homes and all share identical ethnicities and religions. For a start, house prices rocket and thieves know that all of the home owners are affluent. But when it really comes down to it, statistics can show anything people want them to show.

There is probably a way of showing Aireborough as the worst area for crime in our region, or that the most intelligent people in Yorkshire live in Aireborough.

But when it comes down to it, what matters is the happiness of the people who live in the 'average' ward of Aireborough, not what statisticians churn out to the media.

What on earth is the point of vandalising a charity minibus just because you can't steal the piece you want to?

Thieves are thoughtless at the best of times, but vandalism for the sake of vandalism is just pointless.

The 'you can't have it if I can't' frame of mind is pathetic and the yobs in Horsforth who cost a deserving charity some of its vital funds should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Sadly, they won't be.
