Nicky Law is confident that his City side can gain a result tomorrow against another of the relegated Premiership clubs.

After Tuesday night's reverse at West Ham, Sunderland travel to Bradford on the back of two wins, after a run which had seen them lose 17 games on the trot.

And now City, on the back of two straight defeats, are aiming to bounce back with their first home win of the season.

Law said: "We knew after the Gillingham game that it was going to be a tough week for us.

"But we are better against the top teams and if you look at their side, it's full of internationals - Breen, Kilbane, plus Kevin Kyle and Marcus Stewart, with the likes of Phil Babb and Michael Proctor on the bench at the moment.

"We know it's going to be another tough game for us - they will bring a big following and it should be a great atmosphere.

"I am sure the lads will go out there and relish the atmosphere and the challenge. I am positive that we can get something out of the game."

Proctor returns to Bradford, having made an impact on-loan from the Black Cats last season.

Law said of Proctor: "I just hope he's not playing and doesn't get on, so he can't do what he did here and put the ball in the back of the net.

"Michael is a player that I do admire and I was obviously disappointed at the time that he came that we couldn't afford to bring in him - despite him being available to us."

With the season still in its August infancy, Law believes that league position's are not yet significant.

He said: "We are neither here nor there at the moment. The top of the league is nine points - we are around mid-table on four points, so it would be nice us having a free weekend next week to stop the rot and at least get a point.

"There's no need to panic and there is a long, long way to go but obviously, we want to go out there and more than anything, put in a positive performance for the supporters."

Law believes that few, if any, sides in the division, will outclass City.

"We haven't yet played anyone who has absolutely outclassed us.

"I don't think we are that far away but the dividing line between losing and drawing is so thin."

Dean Windass remains doubtful with a calf injury sustained in Tuesday's defeat and Michael Branch will face a late test on a hamstring.

Paul Evans injured himself in a challenge with Rob Lee and is another doubt.

Law has not yet ruled out making a move for another striker, with Branch and Windass potential absentees from an already threadbare squad.

The City boss is keeping his options open and has been linked with Chesterfield's Jamie Burt.

Burt was at Chesterfield under Law's tutelage and the City boss has refused to rule out a trial move.

However, he said: "We have got players here who will get goals - the likes of Windass, Branch and Gray.

"These players have shown their worth but they need to bed in and I am sure, with confidence, the goals will come. We have just got to be patient."
