Robbie Paul has slammed the "stupid" structure of Super League and called for a fundamental restructuring of the league calendar and play-offs format.
The play-offs moved into a six-team format in 2002, giving one more club the chance to win a place in the Grand Final than in the previous four years.
"The system is wrong and completely unfair," said Paul, "as is the way fixtures are arranged.
"We only played Leeds a couple of weeks ago and now we are playing them again next week.
"At such a crucial time in the season, you have some teams playing the likes of Halifax and others playing against the likes of Wigan and Saints, so it's not a level playing field. It's all meant to be based on where you finished last season but it just doesn't make any sense to me.
"The RFL need to look seriously at the way the competition is run because the welfare of the players must come first."
