Severe competition both from imports and the UK market has forced closure of another Bradford wool textile mill. The Thornton Spinning Co. Ltd., of Ashfield Mills, Thornton Road, has sent the statutory 90 day redundancy notices to the Department of Employment and the closure will be phased over the next three months. The company, which is part of the Illingworth Morris Group, was founded in 1941, and employs 164 people.

Investigations by G.P.O. engineers during 1952 showed that sewing machines, hair dryers and other appliances driven by electric motors were responsible for 41 per cent of cases of interference to television reception. A report issued by the Post Office says that in the case of radio reception, faulty sets, aerials, and house wiring were responsible for 33.6 per cent of the complaints investigated.
