Women's Institute members from the Keighley district are getting in on the act with the release of a film about a WI nude calendar.

But the local women will keep their clothes on when they join in the promotion of the movie Calendar Girls.

They will staff a publicity stall at the Picture House cinema, in Keighley, while the film is being shown next month.

Members of the Stanbury, Laycock and East Morton groups hope to recruit members and raise awareness of the more traditional WI activities.

Calendar Girls is a comedy-drama about the rise to worldwide fame of the women of the Rylstone and District WI.

The women, who live near Skipton, posed nude for a calendar and raised thousands of pounds for a leukaemia charity.

The real-life characters are portrayed by actresses such as Helen Mirren and Julie Walters in the film.

The 12a-certificate film begins at the Picture House, in North Street, on Friday, September 12, for at least a fortnight.

Manager Roger Bartle invited Stanbury and District WI, which includes all three local groups, to go along.

He hopes the Harden and Wilsden groups will also have a presence during the fortnight.

Mr Bartle expects the film to be one of the most popular of the summer, attracting particularly elderly people back into the cinema.

There are weekend matinees and Tuesday and Thursday lunch-time screenings so pensioners can return home before the schools finish.

Mr Bartle says: "Some of our staff have seen Calendar Girls and thought it was great fun. There is quite a lot of real local scenery.

"After all the holiday action movies it will be a relief to see one of these amusing and very British films. We are encouraging early bookings because we expect to be busy. We're already selling tickets."
