OXENHOPE cricketer Richard Nichols was celebrating this week after his innings helped Bradford and Bingley claim the Priestley Cup in a pulsating final against Woodlands.

His man of the match performance saw him hit an outstanding 91 before he was run out -- a knock which saw him pick up the prize for the best performance of the day.

He said: " It was a fantastic day really, absolutely brilliant.

"I was very pleased with the way it all went and we had fantastic support all day.

"I was dropped on 30 and I suppose I thought it could be our day after that."

In a final that could have gone the way of either team -- such was the ebb and flow of fortunes -- it was Bradford and Bingley who hit the winning runs in the last over of their innings to seal the six wicket win.

Batting first, Woodlands made 210-9 from their fifty overs, Tim Orrell staking his claim for the man of the match award with his century knock.

He hit 100 before being clean bowled by Lance Shaw and the tail failed to wag before Bradford and Bingley began their innings.

In reply, they started well with captain Carl Sharp (31) and Nichols (91) keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

But following their dismissals, there were a few jitters as both sides battled to claim the prestigious Priestley Cup.

In the end, Richard McCarthy swatted 28 not out to see his side home, with five balls left, to a winning 214-4.
