Anyone placing an order for a current Marina can get "very attractive" terms - because a new Marina is due out shortly. Trevor Taylor, director of UK operations for the newly formed Austin Morris Company, said normal practice was for a model change to be kept secret so dealers could unload old stock. But in just about all other consumer products the policy was to offer bargain prices for the "end of the run". "We see no reason why we couldn't adopt the same approach for cars".

In brilliant sunshine, Halifax's first road courtesy rally at Ovenden Park Camp attracted an entry of 90 motorists and motor-cyclists from as far afield as Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Harogate, Ossett and Todmorden. Competitors, leaving the camp at one minute intervals had to follow a 40-mile route around Halifax at a speed of 20 mph. The route was disclosed only 15 minutes before the rally started. Drivers were observed at four concealed check points by experienced motor patrol officers.
