Thirteen brave women from a Bradford firm have bared all to become the city's Calendar Girls - and they say it was a "real laugh".

The Emerald Gems calendar has been produced by Bradford publisher Emerald to raise money for ward 48 at Leeds General Infirmary.

The ladies, all staff at the Toller Lane-based company, decided to emulate the famous women from Rylstone and District WI.

And they are also following in the footsteps of their male colleagues, who stripped off for a similar charity calendar two years ago.

The 12-bed children's neurosciences ward treats children with head injuries, cerebral palsy, brain tumours and stroke.

Carolyn Tidd, office services executive at Emerald and Mrs October, said: "The theme is 'women in the workplace'." The pictures were linked to the women's jobs, but the details are a closely guarded secret.

The calendar was produced in-house, shot by Paul Wood and produced by graphic designer Mitch Thompson.

The proceeds will go towards refurbishing two treatment rooms on ward 48, with interactive pictures, materials and co-ordinated cupboards and furniture.

Bev Foster, Emerald's Asia Pacific manager, said they had raised nearly £4,000 and hoped to collect £7,5000 throughout the year.

"It was a bit nerve-wracking because there were quite a few people in the room when we shot it," said Bev, Mrs February. "But we had a real laugh - it's been a scream from start to finish."
