Two nightclubbers have been locked up for a street attack that left a man with three fractures to his cheekbone.

Carl Wright and Deborah Rouse repeatedly kicked Francis Bell's his head and body as he lay unconscious outside Flares nightclub in Bradford.

Mr Bell was taken to hospital following the incident last October and needed surgery.

Wright, 25, of Falmouth Avenue, Wapping, Bradford, and Rouse, 19, of Intake Road, Undercliffe, Bradford, were both convicted earlier this month of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Judge Robert Bartfield watched a video of the attack filmed by closed-circuit television cameras. He called it "a sickening example'' of the type of behaviour usually seen in streets late at night.

Wright admitted assaulting a 19-year-old woman in a separate incident when he punched her twice in the face. He was jailed for seven years.

The judge told Rouse he accepted it was a moment of madness and branded her a "hard-faced, calculated liar''.

She was sent to a young offenders' institution for three-and-a-half years.

The court heard Wright and Rouse were in a relationship when they decided to attack Mr Bell after he appeared to offend them.

Wright attacked him first outside the club. As both men struggled on the ground, Rouse kicked Mr Bell and stamped on his head.

Despite him being unconscious, Wright and Rouse then kicked him repeatedly.

Representing Wright, Nigel Edwards said: "By and large, he's not a violent man when he's not in alcohol.''

For Rouse, Robin Frieze said: "This was an isolated, uncharacteristic loss of temper, probably in drink."

He added Rouse continued to deny the offence.
