If Bradford Metro Council wants Saltaire to be a living museum, it should buy the village up, a Shipley East Ward Labour Party member claims. Mr Ralph Baxter was speaking at a party meeting on the eve of Saltaire residents' petition hand-over to Shipley councillors. During the last month the village people have complained about what they describe as " big brother snoopers" compiling a list of house improvements - such as the type of door and colour of paint that can be used on the outside.

August this year gave Bradford more sunshine and less rain than last August, according to records kept at Lister Park. Rainfall for the month was 2.09in - slightly less than the average - compared with 3.80in of rain in August 1952. There were 169.5 hours of August sunshine against 154.4 hours last year.
