Powerlifter Steve Brown has broken four of his own world records in the World Blind Championships in Canada.

Steve, who trains with the University of Bradford's Power and Weight Lifting Club with coach Eddie Bennett, came first in the bench press, two dead lifts and bodyweight categories.

He continues to amaze friends and family by constantly exceeding his best weights.

But the icing on the cake for Steve was winning the Best Masters' Lifter Award - a competition open to anyone of any weight over the age of 40.

The World Blind Championships, which feature a number of sporting events such as cycling and judo, included powerlifting for the first time this year.

Speaking about his latest success, Steve said: "I hope my achievements encourage other visually impaired people to have a go."

Bennett, who also helps train the Bradford Bulls, said: "The University and I have produced a number of powerlifting champions, but I have to admit that Steve is my favourite trainee, despite the fact that he is a Leeds Rhino supporter!"

Earlier this year, Steve defended his British and World Championship titles - breaking six of his own world records in the process - at the British Masters in Edinburgh. At a body weight of 60kg, Steve squatted 180kg, bench pressed 90kg and dead-lifted an incredible 207.5kg.

In early 2001, Steve's won his first world record in the 2000 World Blind Powerlifting Championships before going on to set seven world records at the same event."
