Cupid has been aiming his bow at members of a Bradford rambling club for 100 years.

Dozens of couples have found love through the Bradford Countrywide Holidays Association - otherwise known as the 'catching husbands association'.

Rambler Mike Smith met his wife Susan when he joined the club in 1965.

The couple, who now live in Clayton Heights, married in 1968 and have just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.

Mr Smith said: "Many couples have met and married through the club over the years."

But love is not the only thing the club has to boast about. Established in 1903, Bradford CHA is this year celebrating its centenary.

Set up as a regional branch of the national CHA, the Bradford club started organising monthly walks around Bingley and Harden and visits to some of the area's beauty spots including Bolton Abbey.

With 60 members, the club survived two world wars and from 1946 began meeting once a week for a ten-mile walk with a tea-stop at a cafe.

Irene Hudson, of Bradford CHA, said: "It is amazing to think the walkers in those days would work all morning and then meet after lunch for a long walk."

As part of the centenary celebrations, Mrs Hudson is collating information for a book to track the club's 100-year history.

She said: "I have found lots of old photographs and notices from as early as 1915 advertising the walks. I just don't know how they managed to get to these places."

With more than 300 members today, the club is still going strong. Ramblers of different levels meet every weekend to enjoy walks around the region including the Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.

But the future of the club depends on younger members joining.

Mrs Hudson said: "We really struggle to get young people to join because there is so much choice for them these days."

To mark the 100th anniversary, members took part in a walk from Bradford to Edinburgh which they completed in stages ending in May.
