City this afternoon signed winger Nicky Summerbee on a two-year deal.
The former Sunderland and Bolton forward, who has been training with Burnley, was happy to agree a move to a club he has been linked with twice before.
Boss Nicky Law said: "We are delighted to have someone of such proven quality and we are sure he is going to make a big difference to the team."
Meanwhile, City are set to rip it up and start again with a second pre-season. Law and chairman Gordon Gibb have decided that the best way to forget their current slump is to take the players away for a few days.
They hope a change of scenery will lift the mood and create a closer bond within the squad before the Preston home game a week on Saturday.
Law took his side to Scotland in the summer to build up team spirit and believes a similar trip away could ease the pressure building up from a run of poor performances.
Gibb said: "The whole point of it will be to lick our wounds and bond together again as a group. We haven't decided where it will be yet, that's up to Nicky, but I just like the principle of them going away and improving morale.
"We are going to work day and night to make sure we can get over the disappointment of the first few games. Treating this time as another pre-season will hopefully bring everyone back afresh."
Law was called in by Gibb to discuss City's sticky start which was brought to a head by the 4-0 thrashing from Sunderland.
Gibb added: "It was a frank meeting and neither of us pulled our punches. But there were no ultimatums and the outcome was positive.
"I felt a bit sorry for Nicky because he does take things personally and at times it looks like the whole world is on his back. But most importantly we agreed about what we've got to improve on, namely our home form, and are confident we can remedy the situation."
