A NEW karate club has been set up in Burley-in-Wharfedale by England and Great Britain international Paul Newby.
Paul, who recently won a gold medal at the Commonwealth championships in Manchester, will run the club at Burley and Woodhead Primary School in Sandholme Drive on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
He is looking for new students from five to 85 years - "We welcome everybody to have a go," he said.
The children's classes run from 6-7pm with the ad ults running from7-8.30 pm.
The club is part of the Seido Kan Karate Academy which has other centres in Silsden, Skipton, Bingley and Barnsley.
Paul said: "We were looking to expand and I liked the Burley-in-Wharfedale are so we have set up there.
We are currently the British and English champions and I feel we have a lot to offer."
Karate was not included in the Commonwealth Games when they were staged in Manchester but the sport has since been accepted and will feature in the next Games.
"Because our sport was not in the last Commonwealth Games that is why they held the Commonwealth Championships in Manchester recently. We now look forward to it being included in future," said Paul.
