Detectives hunting the killer of Bradford cabbie Mohammed Basharat have traced to Jamaica a man they want to interview.
The man has been detained by the Jamaican authorities and will shortly be extradited to the USA to face charges relating to offences there ten years ago.
Bradford detectives hope to travel to the USA to interview him.
Mr Basharat was shot dead in Little Horton Private Hire taxi office in Park Lane, Bradford, at 8.35pm on Saturday, October 20, 2001.
The suspect in custody in Jamaica cannot be named at this stage for legal reasons.
Police believe Mr Basharat was killed following a 'road-rage' type incident on Friday, October 19, involving his taxi and two men in a Renault Clio. Initial investigations traced the passenger in the vehicle and inquiries led to 11 Jamaican nationals being arrested, seven of whom were deported.
The senior investigating officer on the case, Det Supt Bob Bridgestock, said: "International relations are such that we will always pursue people who are wanted for questioning in connection with serious offences and we will track them down."
