Mark Hobson will tonight tell his rivals: I'm the daddy at cruiserweight.

The Huddersfield fighter aims to add the British belt to his Commonwealth by beating Rob Norton at Sheffield's Ponds Forge Arena.

And then Hobson believes there will be no disputing who is top dog in the division.

Rising talent David Haye may be the pin-up boy but a Lonsdale belt will prove Hobson is the man on top of the pile.

He said: "If I win this then all the others will have to come through me. You hear all this about Haye and Enzo Macaranelli and others but that means nothing.

"I don't have to start shouting the odds. All I have to do is win this title and then it's down to the rest of them.

"If they want to take over the mantle then they will have to get me in a ring."

Hobson's first emotion about tonight's fight is one of relief.

He has been mandatory challenger for the domestic crown for a year but was constantly put off by former champion Bruce Scott. It was only when Scott was stripped of his title by the British board that Hobson finally got a fight.

Norton, from Stourbridge, has been beaten only twice in 26 pro outings and both were for titles. But he has fought only four times in four years.

Trainer Chris Aston said: "People are saying there's nothing happening in cruiserweights but Hobson is a bit special.

"He has taken his training very seriously and is in excellent shape. Others are going to find him very hard to beat."

Coverage of the fight is on BBC 1 at 11.45pm.
