A Skipton couple revisited a honeymoon spot in the Lake District to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
Ken and Kathleen Ellwood, of Tarn Moor Crescent, were married at Holy Trinity Church in Skipton on August 15 1953 and chose a walking holiday in the Lake District as their honeymoon.
On the first day, they walked five to six miles before pitching their tent in the picturesque hanging valley at Styhead Tarn, situated half way up Great Gable. They then climbed the 1,500 feet up to the top of the fell.
Now both in their seventies, the retired dental surgeon and retired theatre nurse took a trip down memory lane completing an almost replica journey to celebrate their golden wedding.
However on this occasion they were accompanied by their youngest son, Peter, and his wife, Helen.
Ken said they'd even used the same camping equipment, including their trusty old tent, made by the same company that supplied the tent for the first trip up Everest which also took place in 1953.
Seventy-nine-year-old Mr Ellwood carried kit weighing about 21 pounds on his back, while Mrs Ellwood carried about six pounds.
The couple, who met at a nurses dance in Leeds, have both led very active lives and have four children and eight grandchildren.
Mr Ellwood is also well-known for publishing three picture books of old Skipton and the proofs have just been sent away for his fourth book entitled Skipton and the Dales, which should be out in October.
