Police have revealed that a suspicious package, which caused a city centre bank to be evacuated, was sent by a disgruntled customer.
The parcel, containing a letter and an undisclosed household item, was posted to the Halifax bank in Bradford city centre and sparked a major security alert when it arrived on Wednesday.
Scores of workers had to be evacuated and were not allowed to return to their offices for nearly four hours.
Parts of Bank Street and Piece Hall Yard were cordoned off while an Army bomb disposal team was called to the scene.
They examined the package and found it was not a danger to the public.
It was handed to police who have now sent it to a forensic science laboratory at Wetherby for examination.
Detective Inspector John Armitage, of Bradford South CID, said the package, which was posted in the Bradford area, appeared to have been sent by a disgruntled customer of the bank.
He said: "It would appear to have been sent by somebody who has a grievance against the bank - for what reason we do not know. There will be a criminal investigation because of the circumstances, but if the person who sent it would contact us, it would help us to clear the matter up more speedily. We urge that person, or anyone who knows who it is, to come forward."
Anyone with information should contact Bradford South Police help desk on (01274) 376459.
