Nicky Law has warned his fleet of frontmen that places are up for grabs.

Having snapped up winger Nicky Summerbee to provide the service that has been lacking, the Bantams boss will switch his attention to the strikers.

City have hit the net only four times in six games so far this term and Law has made it clear that no places up front are guaranteed.

He said: "We need to sort out the strike partnership and who that's going to be. There are three or four of them fit now and the opportunity is there to earn a place.

"We've not been creating enough chances but hopefully that will change when we get Nicky in. Then there will be no excuses."

Dean Windass and Michael Branch have been his preferred front-line, although last season's top scorer Andy Gray has also been pushed forward.

Luke Cornwall, Robert Wolleaston and Danny Forrest are waiting for an opening and all featured in yesterday's private friendly at Middlesbrough.

Cornwall and Wolleaston started the game, while Forrest, whose second season as a pro has been hindered by a slight injury, came on for the final 20 minutes.

The Premiership side, who included Juninho and Gaizka Mendieta in a powerful line-up, won 5-0 at their training ground.

Jason Gavin and Wayne Jacobs both picked up knocks to add to the list of niggling injuries which include Mark Paston and Alan Combe.

Because of the number of minor casualties, City have decided to shelve plans to take the squad away for a few days.
